2020 has been an interesting year for all of us. Back in March when the MACC closed due to COVID-19, we were hopeful it would only be for a couple weeks. The weeks added up to five months, when in August, we finally reopened on a limited basis. Our music and art teachers and students were so happy to be back doing what they love, and we were happy to see them! Our volunteer staff was rewarded daily with compliments on the improved look and feel of the space, and their efforts to keep everyone well. It was a sad decision to close once again Thanksgiving week, due to the increased numbers of COVID-19 infections, but we look forward to the New Year and the promise of a new vaccine that will help protect us all.
While we wait, work continues on the SME building. The SMEPF partnership with the Town is a good one. Volunteers continue to make improvements inside and out while the Town moves forward with the installation of HVAC units in the classrooms. The Town employees mowing the grass are doing an excellent job and the grounds have never looked better!
Thank you Garden Club of Signal Mountain for adding a pollinator garden to the landscape. I can’t wait to see it next spring when everything starts to grow and bloom. The bees and butterflies are going to love it.
Be sure to give a big shout-out (from a distance) to Dick and Cheryl Graham if you see them. They have put in the most hours of anyone at the MACC this year, running the office and continuing building improvements. They are the workhorses that keep this project moving forward. Thank you Dick and Cheryl!
I’m so thankful for our wonderful board members: Snoda Hendricks, Brooke Daniel, John Harr, Dick Graham, and Gordon Inman. Board meetings are something to look forward to with this motivated group of talented individuals.
As we wait to reopen in 2021, work will continue at SME. If you want to take a tour of the building while we’re closed, just give us a call (423-886-1959) or tap on the window if you see someone there. We love showing off this wonderful, old building!
There is ZERO revenue being produced while we’re closed, so a donation would be greatly appreciated. All proceeds go toward making your community center a warmer, brighter place to enjoy for years to come.
We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season. Until we can meet again, we’ll keep the lights on.
